OXFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The volunteer program, under the auspices of the Board of Education, strives to create a bridge between community and school by linking parents and other relatives and businesses in the school partnership.

Participation is open to any person or business interested in volunteering.

Orientation sessions are held in September and October at the schools.

Since its inception, the program has yielded thousands of hours of volunteer time. It has won nationwide acclaim and was designated a model school volunteer program.

The volunteers assist by: reinforcing student skills, making reading, spelling and math games, helping children make books, chaperoning field trips, reading to students, helping with field day activities, helping create bulletin boards, serving as lecturers and historians, helping with creative writing programs and doing home-school projects. Special events include a Holiday Cookie Social, held during the first week in December, and a Volunteer Recognition Dinner, held the first Wednesday in June.
